Belly Dance

IMG_3909.JPG

I have been teaching the basics of belly dance since 2003 and have taken many years of dance training including ballet and modern, and have my Level 1 Teacher Certification with Hadia. I started belly dancing with Aziza Habib and Sharifa in Calgary in 1997 and continue my training through ongoing classes and workshops. My instructors have included Hossam Ramzy and Serena Ramzy, Dina, Rhanda Kamal, Asi Haskal, Suhaila Salimpur, Hadia, Nervine Kerbes, Rhama Haddad, Rachel Brice, Tahia, Jumanah, Denise Enan, Nath Keo, Hind, Amir Thaleb, Crystal Wheran, Sherry McIntosh, and Lacey Sanchez. I am currently dancing with Forbidden Dance Company in Courtenay.

I have participated in Shimmy Mob since it started in 2011 and was Team Leader for Delburne Shimmy Mob from 2013 to 2020. I participated with Team Hornby Island for 2021 and danced with Team Courtenay for 2022 and 2023, in both cases raising funds for the Comox Valley Transition Society.

Shimmy Mob is an international event with thousands of dancers participating in teams all over the world. Our primary objective is to raise donations and awareness for women and children’s shelters in our local area. Our secondary purpose is to share the beauty of belly dance in a fun, flashmob-type event on World Belly Dance Day (the second Saturday in May). Visit Shimmy Mob for more information.
