Belly Dance

IMG_3909.JPG

I fell in love with belly dancing in 1997 and since then have continued my appreciation of the art form through ongoing classes and workshops. I have taken many years of dance training including ballet and modern, and obtained Level 1 Teacher Certification with Hadia. My instructors have included Aziza Habib, Sharifa, Hadia, Hossam Ramzy and Serena Ramzy, Dina, Rhanda Kamal, Asi Haskal, Suhaila Salimpur, Nervine Kerbes, Rhama Haddad, Rachel Brice, Tahia, Jumanah, Denise Enan, Nath Keo, Hind, Amir Thaleb, Crystal Wheran, Sherry McIntosh, and Lacey Sanchez. I am currently dancing with Emily at Forbidden Dance Company in Courtenay.

I have also been teaching the basics of belly dance since 2003, currently just while I am in Mexico in the winter. These classes are by donation and funds are given to an organization in the community such as the spay and neuter clinic or, as is the case in 2026, the local ambulance fund.

I have participated in Shimmy Mob since it started in 2011 and was Team Leader for Delburne Shimmy Mob from 2013 to 2020 where our team raised over $16,000 for our local domestic violence prevention organization. Since 2021 I have been raising funds and awareness for the Comox Valley Transition Society. Click here to donate, thank you!

Shimmy Mob is an international event with thousands of dancers participating in teams all over the world. Our primary objective is to raise donations and awareness for women and children’s shelters in our local area. Our secondary purpose is to share the beauty of belly dance in a fun, flashmob-type event on World Belly Dance Day (the second Saturday in May).
